I admit it. I love history. I love knowing how things came to be. I did my Ph.D. in church history and historical theology at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey in 1979, focused on the massive revival sparked by John Wesley. Drew University has the largest “Wesleyanna collection” (things pertaining to John Wesley, including the “death mask,” which was put on the face of a person right as they died, so a statue could be made of them) of any school in America, outside of Duke University. I have had the privilege of going on four John Wesley pilgrimages to England, taking many people with me. I want to invite you to be with me on my fifth trip.
 
Why go on such a trip? John Wesley was the catalyst used for one of the greatest spiritual awakenings in all of history. Beginning in 1738 and 1739, the revival eventually went global. There are likely as many as 750 denominations which point to Wesley as a foundation stone. And it came in an extremely dark and foreboding period in England’s history. England was turned by the revival. Could America be turned now? Allow your faith to be stirred.

John Wesley had an apartment at Oxford University, but his main home was next to City Road Chapel (which you will see), which is across the street from the famous Bunhill Fields Cemetery, the burial places of his mother, Susanna (who birthed 19 children), John Bunyan (author of “Pilgrim’s Progress”), Daniel Defoe (author of “Robinson Crusoe”), and Isaac Watts (who wrote hymns such as “Joy to the World,” “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” and “Oh God Our Help in Ages Past”).
