Comments from Pastor Mattesius: “Fear Produces self-preservation.”
Lot went to fear, which led him to self-preservation and he ended up in a cave.
“The kingdom calls us to faith. We are blessed in order to be a blessing.”
“Poor is not being able to meet our needs. Rich is being able to meet the needs of others.”
The widow of Zarephath lost an income stream (oil and flour). Elijah lost an income stream (the brook dried up). But, neither lost the Provider. The widow provided for herself, Elijah the prophet, and “her household” while the famine lasted. If we have the Provider, we have all we need. We must cultivate intimacy with the Lord in times of prosperity so we hear His voice as a friend when He is directing us to provision in times of famine.
