The Jolting News from Mexico

We just returned from Mexico City. You will be quite shocked at their “secular” Constitution, and the fact that it is illegal to mention “God” or “the Bible” in Congress. We learned some jolting news regarding what Christians are now facing in Mexico.

We did a special World Prayer Network call on this topic. I want you to listen to it now:
WPN Call 557.

Here are the persons who were on that call.
Pastor Aarón Lara
We heard from Aarón Lara, Pastor and Leader of the Iberoamerican Congress for Life and Family. He has been a political advisor for many years and a strong defender of Kingdom values.
Aldo Beltran
Another person we interviewed on the World Prayer Network was Aldo Beltran, who is highly self-trained in legal matters of religious liberty in Mexico, and he gave us an overview of not only Mexican government at the present, but also the decision being made right as we were on the WPN call, whether or not to allow pro-life and pro-traditional marriage spokespersons to even attend the important meetings of the Organization of American States (OAS).

What is the OAS?
Some of the breathtaking views of the Organization for American States (OAS) headquarters, Washington DC.
Most people do not know that the OAS is like the United Nations in New York City, only that the OAS is for nations in the Western Hemisphere: North American, Central America and South America. The OAS headquarters is located about one half mile from the White House in Washington, DC.
Víctor Pérez (left)
Additionally, we interviewed Víctor Pérez, a political leader and communicator from the State of Mexico, former councilman of Tlalnepantla, and currently serving as Director of Religious Affairs for his political party in the state. He is recognized for his work with the community, promoting values, social participation, and community leadership.
Pastor Harim Nabi
Translating for them on the call was Pastor Harim Nabi, who is also one of the key organizers for the remarkable pro-life, pro-traditional marriage, pro-freedom Congresso Iberoamericana (the approximately 30 nations which speak Spanish) Por La Vida Y La Familia, at which I have had the privilege of speaking in both Uruguay and Dominican Republic, and will be speaking at their event in Spain next year.
Cámara de Diputados (Chamber of the Representatives)
We also discussed our time of prayer in front of the Mexican Congress (the Cámara Diputados).

And now, let me take you on a pictorial journey of our time in Mexico.
Met with some members of Congress, elected officials, persons planning to run for office, governmentally active, and politically savvy persons in Mexico City, speaking about the biblical principles of governance.
Deputy Joanna Felipe Torres
One of the leaders we met with was former member of the Congress (called Deputy in Mexico) Joanna Felipe Torres, who is currently a Deputy in the Mexico City government, one of the largest cities in the world. She oversees a committee on religious affairs and the family, so is in a critical role in government.
While in the Congress of Mexico, we decided to pose as if we’re were members of Congress.
Praying over the Congress of Mexico. (As she finished praying, she looked up. Note the cloud formation as she prayed.)

Explanation:
Mexico’s Constitution is rigidly “secular.” One is not allowed to refer to God or the Bible in the Congress, although they welcome Aztec (inherently religious) references. Remember the Aztecs, who practiced human sacrifice, sometimes sacrificing up to 700’persons per day? That is welcomed. But the Bible or God cannot be referenced.

And…To top it off, preachers cannot be involved in any way in politics. It is illegal, and it is enforced. I was told that if a preacher in Mexico references abortion or homosexuality, he has to phrase it very carefully, or he can be fined or arrested.

One of my good friends, known for his strong biblical stances on abortion and marriage is not even allowed to enter the Capitol Building, based on the rules set by the ruling, left wing political party.
Rosemary Schindler Garlow speaking in Mexico City at the “United with Zion” event.

May I, as her proud husband l, brag on her? She is so poised, and her comments are content-rich.
As Rosemary spoke in Mexico City at the “United with Zion” event, 13 year old Liam (son of our remarkable host and amazing translator), already an talented artist, drew Rosemary’s picture.
We did not know we were being called to the platform to be part of a panel on Israel, but happy to do it. This “United with Zion” event was co-sponsored by the 10,000 seat Calacoaya Cultural Christian Church, and four other churches, along with the Israeli Embassy in Mexico. It was a stunning event.

Answering the question, “What has Israel given the world?” and then I took the focus back to the previous question on how to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Listen to Rosemary’s prayer asking for forgiveness for antisemitism. Click on the picture above to watch the video or view it here.

A young man came up to me and said, “My (late) grandfather, Pastor Felipe Garcia brought you here to Mexico City to speak seven years ago (in the National Anthropology Museum and the Auditorium by the Mexican Senate Chamber), and I took a picture with your wife.” (Then he showed me the picture of a little boy with Rosemary.) He continued, “Can I get a picture with her again?”

Look at the two pictures side by side. What a difference seven years makes.
I’m used to living in San Diego, which is barely above sea level.

When I got to Mexico City, I thought “Why am I panting so hard? I must be getting out of shape.”

I walked all over Israel - up and down hills for two weeks - and never got out of breath. What’s gone wrong with me?

And then I discovered the altitude was almost 7500 feet above sea level.
That’s almost as much as Green Mountain Falls, Colorado (one of my fav Rocky Mountain towns).

No wonder I was breathing hard.
We want to encourage you to pray for our neighbor to the South, Mexico, for God's blessing to be on her.
