We recently had an exceptional visit to Oklahoma City, to meet with the Governor and Members of the House and Senate, along with others. Having lived in Oklahoma a number of times, this was a special time for me.

We meet with elected officials for one reason: to bring principles of biblical governance to government leaders. It is a profound honor to meet with these governmental leaders.

Absolutely fabulous meeting with Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt. A high energy conversation. He is a remarkable leader. What a joy to meet with him!

What a joy to be with a group of Oklahoma State Senators and Representatives… especially Representative Nichole Miller. I was her pastor when she was 14 year old Nicole Hutchison, daughter of my good friend Travis Hutchison. It was a fun day for me!

The interior of the Oklahoma State Capital Building is breathtaking. Remodeled and renovated a few years ago, it looks incredible!! Way to go Oklahoma.

I love Oklahoma! I have lived there several times, in Bethany - 4 different times (Okla City area) - as well as in Tulsa and in Bartlesville. The Capital Building never had a dome on it, until recently.

I was interviewed by the wonderful team at the Oklahoma Council on Public Affairs on the topic of “the biblical understanding on minimum wage,” which I covered in chapter 17 in my book WELL VERSED. (Oklahoma has a minimum wage bill coming up, in which wages could be tied in Oklahoma to the whole nation, including New York City and San Francisco. That would not be wise.)

This is a special location to me. This is the Sequoia Building right beside (north of) the Oklahoma State Capitol Building, where we had the remarkable privilege of seeing, for the first time, on April 11, 1980, our newly adopted 3 month old son whom we named Joshua James. Breathtaking memories.

And now for a bit of humor.

At 10pm on Sunday night, I realized that I had forgotten my ties, the first time I have done that in my approximately 10,000 trips. I was to speak the next morning to a group of Oklahoma State Senators and Representatives at the Oklahoma Capitol Building. What could I do?
 
I was to meet with Steve Green, co-owner of Hobby Lobby, at 7am for breakfast. “Steve,” I said, embarrassed and with a red face, “I have a huge and strange request. I forgot my tie and I am speaking to Oklahoma Legislators and then meeting privately with the Governor. I need your tie.”
 
He graciously provided me his tie to get through the day! Talk about an embarrassment!
 
I then posted the story, followed by pictures with Oklahoma governmental leaders. I received many comments on Facebook simply stating (as if to rub it in ), “Nice tie.” 
 
For the record, we have now mailed the tie back to the gracious “tie benefactor.”

We did a special interview with the talented writer, director, and producer of A Great Awakening, Joshua Enck. Joshua is the son-in-law of the founder of the two stunning 2,000 seat, Sight & Sound Theatres, located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Branson, Missouri, Glenn Eshelman. (We interviewed him on WPN on November 5, 2025.

Joshua Enck was joined by lead actor Jonathan Blair, who portrays George Whitefield. Jonathan has been performing with Sight & Sound since 2017, appearing in productions such as Miracle of Christmas, Jesus, Queen Esther, and David. In 2022, he starred as Charlie Longfellow in I Heard the Bells, the first full-length feature film from Sight & Sound. Now, he returns to the screen as George Whitefield in A Great Awakening. 

Also joining our interview was Ted Baehr of Movie Guide magazine, one of the finest and most brilliant movie critics in America, along with Dr. Pastor Gary Cass, who wrote his doctoral dissertation on the famous George Whitefield, who is featured in the movie.

I (Jim) wrote my doctoral dissertation on John Wesley, who was a friend of George Whitefield, although they did have some theological disagreements over Calvinism vs. Arminianism. Wesley led the Evangelical Awakening in the 1700s in England, while the First Great Awakening was occurring in the New World, the 13 Colonies.

George Whitefield was highly influenced by another prominent leader in The Awakening, the brilliant Jonathan Edwards. I had the tremendous privilege of lecturing on Jonathan Edwards and the First Great Awakening in Northampton, Massachusetts, the city in which the awakening began, and also where Edwards was pastor.

I also had the honor of seeing Edwards’ original handwritten sermon, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” in the Beineke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University, after making a trek to the actual site where Edwards preached this famous First Great Awakening sermon on July 8, 1741, in what is now Enfield, Connecticut. (By the way, when Rosemary traced her ancestral lineage, she discovered that Jonathan Edwards was her sixth great grand uncle.)

One other very odd and bizarre note: When George Whitefield died, he was buried in a crypt under the pulpit – for real, I am not making this up! – of the Old South Presbyterian Church in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Some of the Revolutionary War soldiers tended to view his clothing and body superstitiously, like a good luck charm or sort of a relic. 

Consequently, some of them cut off pieces of his clothing, to carry it into battle, hoping it might help bring them victory. Some overzealous soldier – and I apologize for being a bit graphic here – cut off George Whitefield’s thumb – yes, you read that right! – as his rather odd “good luck charm.”

In a way I cannot explain, the detached thumb of the famous evangelist was somehow later either purchased by or given to the Drew University Library, in Madison, New Jersey, the institution from which I received my Ph.D. degree.

Many years later, in 2012, David Barton and I were co-leading “The Next Great Awakening Tour” – Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, DC – which included a detour to Drew University, located about 30 minutes or so from Manhattan, NYC. Although we were 200 years too late to hear the great Whitefield preach, we could, at least, gaze upon the severed and carefully preserved thumb. (Okay, I admit, that may be simply too much information about Mr. Whitefield.)

Edwards later became president of Princeton University. In the early 1970’s I was a student at an adjacent institution, Princeton Theological Seminary, thus I had the honor of appreciating the town’s remarkable history.

Princeton University was originally known as “Log College,” because it was a small log building, founded by a father-son team, William and Gilbert Tennent, for the purpose of preparing pastors as quickly as possible to try to shepherd the massive number of new converts that came about from the revival known as the First Great Awakening. In fact, on the PTS campus was a building known as Tennent Hall.

Tonight, we’ll explore the powerful story behind the film, which tells the true account of an unlikely friendship between Evangelist George Whitefield and a skeptical Deist (one who does not believe in miracles or in a providential, loving God involved in history), Ben Franklin, that helped shape a defining moment in American history. As the 13 Colonies stood on the brink of collapse, Reverend George Whitefield helped ignite the First Great Awakening, uniting a generation through his bold proclamation of liberty in Christ.

It is important to note that in all countries before “the grand American experiment” with unheard-of religious freedom, if you were born in a certain nation, or a certain colony in the new world, you were automatically a member of the official church of that region. You had to opt out of membership, otherwise you were considered a member of the official church in that region. There were a few exceptions such as Rhode Island and Pennsylvania most notably, and also New Jersey and Delaware. But for most of the other areas, nine of the 13 Colonies, if you were born in one of the them, you were automatically a member of the official state (or colony) supported church:

• Congregational – Massachusetts and most of New England;
• Anglican – the Carolinas, Virginia, Georgia;
• Catholic – Maryland.

Careful historians know that Whitefield’s message of individual decisions for Christ dramatically changed thinking, People went from thinking “corporately” (in mass) to “individually,” that is, “I can make an individual decison for Christ,” as opposed to somehow being born into the faith. With the gospel message being preached, individuals could make their own decisions, part of the stimulus for the “rugged individualism” of Americans. That was an enormous change for the culture.

The revival also proved to unite the very divided colonies. As the Great Awakening spread up and down the 13 Colonies, the biblical truths of salvation united the people across denominational and geographical lines into the family of God in a way that made them much stronger and thus able to oppose England, which had the greatest and strongest fighting force in the world at that time.

In addition, with the gospel being proclaimed, society became less class conscious: the upper and the lower classes. The gospel proclamation challenged the assumed doctrine of “the divine right of kings.” The gospel message had an egalitarian, or equalizing, role. It meant that the common citizen was not inferior to the “upper crust” of society. No longer did they have to obey a king across the Atlantic.

Furthermore, the message of liberty in Christ translated beautifully to liberty for the colonies from the yoke of England. Had Whitefield’s message not been heard by tens of thousands, the Revolutionary War would not have occurred.

I have noted many times that freedom and liberty runs in “threes.” Political freedom, economic freedom and religious liberty run together as a triumvirate, sort of a triad. Where one rises, the other two are likely to follow. When one is crushed, the other two are likely to fall.

The American Revolution cannot be understood merely in economic terms, that is, the Boston Tea Party, or in merely political terms, that is, the breaking with the King.

It can only be fully understood when the cry for religious freedom is fully grasped. As the tagline of The Great Awakening movie says, “There was a Revelation before there was a Revolution.” That is profoundly true.

In a remarkable turn of events, one of the closest and unexpected allies and friends of George Whitefield was the Deist Benjamin Franklin. They are the ultimate “odd couple.” Franklin came to realize that true freedom cannot simply be written into law, but must be awakened in the hearts of the people.

We were there. We saw it happen. We sat in the visitor’s gallery of the chambers in which the 343 Members of the Canadian Parliament meet. And then it happened, this past Wednesday, March 25th. A horrible antibiblical, antichristian bill passed. In an instant, freedom was lost. Religious liberty was trashed.

The bill now goes to the Senate. The Canadian is not like our Senate in the U.S. Our Senators are elected for six year terms. Canadian Senators are appointed by the Prime Minister for life. There are about 150 Senators, with maybe one tenth of them being conservative. In addition, it is not believed that the liberal Canadian courts will overturn it.

WHAT HAPPENED IN CANADA
 
We attended the National Prayer Breakfast in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, last week, on March 23rd and 24th. Then the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast began on the afternoon of March 24th and continued all day Wednesday, March 25th. 
 
I have written openly about my profound concern for the National Prayer Breakfast in our country, in Washington, DC. Let me explain it below before I share what happened at Canada’s Capitol, Ottawa, Ontario.

THE NATIONAL PRAYER BREAKAST IN THE U.S.A.
After his election in 1952, Dwight Eisenhower—who was named after Dwight Moody, the great evangelist of the 1800s—told a young evangelist named Billy Graham that the country needed spiritual renewal. Abraham Vereide, who had migrated from Norway to America in 1905, became a Methodist minister in Seattle. He soon realized that to see the changes he longed for, he needed to reach government leaders. By the 1940s, Vereide was discipling top government leaders in DC. He befriended Senator Frank Carlson of Kansas, who agreed with Graham that a “Presidential Prayer Breakfast” should begin.

Billy Graham convinced a hesitant Eisenhower, who was quite private about his now Presbyterian—originally “River Brethren” Mennonite—faith, to do so. Joined by Pastor Richard Halverson (NOTE: I was a classmate of his son – Chris Halverson – when I was a student at Princeton Theological Seminary) the Presidential Prayer Breakfast was born in 1953, which had previously been known as the Senate Prayer Breakfast. The name was changed in 1970 to the “National Prayer Breakfast.” The National Prayer Breakfast has enjoyed enormous visibility, impact, and success, both nationally and internationally.

May I add a personal note? The first president I ever saw was Eisenhower, in 1952, when I was five years old. The only funeral gathering of a president that I ever attended was that of President Eisenhower, in 1969. And Senator Frank Carlson was a Kansas farmer, who lived only four miles from our farm. I am proud to say I knew him. Kansans were proud of them both.

BUT THERE ARE PROBLEMS
Certainly the 1950’s seemed to be demonstrating a type of awakening. However, with all the rekindled manifestations of spiritual fervor—“under God” added to the Pledge of Allegiance, “In God We Trust” added to our coins (both initiatives of President Eisenhower and Senator Frank Carlson), and a National Prayer Breakfast involving the highest elected officials in the nation, America did not become more inherently religious. 

To the contrary, since the 1950s the Republic has become more apostate. Or should we even label it pagan?

And in the midst of all the wonderful things that have come through the prayer breakfasts—and they are many—there have emerged two serious problems that I am calling “woke errors.” Why is this important to go over? Because the prayers of the leaders of a nation are very important to God, and they will have an impact on a nation. Hezekiah prayed for delivery from Assyria and it miraculously happened (2 Kings 19:19); Moses interceded when the Israelites sinned against God and deserved His wrath and the Lord was merciful (Exodus 32:11-14); David prayed for God’s blessing upon Israel and his son Solomon and the Lord responded (1 Chronicles 29:10-22); and Solomon prayed for wisdom to govern a great nation so that it will continue to be blessed (1 Kings 3:3-14). The prayers of the “mighty” matter. Proverbs 29:2 captures this, when kings are righteous (and pray), the nation is blessed.     

But when prayers of leaders attempt to manipulate God (like king Balak attempted to do through the pagan prophet Balaam), then God’s judgment is deserved (Numbers 22-24). 

God will not be mocked (Galatians 6:6-7); trifling with Him will not end well. Now, consider the two errors below, as we have finally arrived at one of the purposes for this newsletter, to caution regarding these missteps.
 
WOKE ERROR #1 IN THE NATIONAL PRAYER BREAKFAST IN THE U.S.A.: “JUST PRAY TOGETHER”
In recent years, a usual and dangerous concept has developed in Washington, DC. Here is the view: So long as we—Democrat and Republican members of Congress—pray together, we can then go back out into our respective chambers and vote how we want. That is a tragic error.

The ultimate purpose of prayer is not to convince God to do things. The ultimate purpose of prayer is to bring ourselves into alignment with His will. “Thy will be done,” is a key phrase from the prayer Jesus taught His followers. Thy will, not my will.

When members of Congress pray together, assuming it is authentic prayer, it produces intimacy with God and conformity to His Word, His will, and His ways. Consequently, and this is key: If people pray together, and come into agreement with His Word, they will not then go out on the legislative floor and one of them vote to support the mutilation of children by so-called gender altering surgeries, or for the dismembering of babies in the womb, or for that for which God destroyed Sodom. Elected officials who pray together will—together—vote scripturally. 
 
TRANSFORMED LIVES
Let me ask a bizarre question: Can a woman be a prostitute and be a Christian? The answer is yes, for about fifteen minutes (figuratively speaking). As a new creation in Christ, she will soon realize that she can no longer do the things she used to do. It is true that she is not saved by ceasing to practice prostitution. She is saved by what Jesus did for her on the cross. However, the evidence, or the “fruit” of her conversion will be her transformed life.

I will now make the application: Can a member of the U.S. Congress truly be an authentic Christian and still vote to have penises cut off of little boys and breasts cut off of little girls in the name of so-called gender reassignment surgery? Yes, but only for the proverbial fifteen minutes. Conviction of the Holy Spirit will overtake them and, as a true and serious follower of Jesus Christ, they will repent and never vote that way again. Same with killing babies in the womb. Same with the violation of God’s sacred definition of one man-one woman marriage. No true follower of our Lord and Savior would ever vote to violate those and other foundational biblical principles.
 
WOKE ERROR #2 IN THE NATIONAL PRAYER BREAKFAST IN THE U.S.A.: “IN THE SPIRIT OF JESUS”
Another myth, or should we say heresy, that has emerged in the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC is the notion that we all—Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs or even atheists—can gather and pray “in the spirit of Jesus.” (I am not making this up. That is precisely the thinking of the NPB in DC.) I have always loved the phrase “the Spirit of Jesus” from Acts 17:6—until I began hearing the phrase thrown around in conversations in Washington, DC.

I was quite puzzled by the way it was being used. What did they mean by “the spirit of Jesus?” Was it the Jesus of the Bible? Apparently not. The Jesus of the Bible was born of a Virgin, lived a sinless life, was crucified for the sins of the world, died, was buried, resurrected on the third day, and is coming back someday as Judge. That is the biblical, actual historical Jesus.

Can a Muslim gather and pray in the name of that Jesus? Well, for starters, Muslims don’t believe that Jesus is the Son of God, or that He died on the cross for their sins. So the answer would be “no,” unless it is the prayer of repentance to come to Jesus. Or any other religion? Likely not. 

We do know that forming meaningful relationships with people who are of other religions is good and wise and Christ-honoring. Forming meaningful relationships with Leftist woke Progressives is a good thing as well. That is honoring to God. But thinking one can pray together “in the Spirit of Jesus,” while continuing on in violation of biblical truths, is delusional at best and heresy at worst. 
 
THE DANGERS
Once again, the reason for this newsletter is to help us all avoid the two “woke errors.” They are serious: 

• The first one regarding prayer tends to either equate Allah or other so-called gods of other religions with Yahweh of the Bible. Or it diminishes prayer to have no impact on how one votes, as if there is not a distinctly God-honoring, biblically grounded way to vote on issues. As a matter of policy, I will work with people of other religious to advance what I know to be biblical values. However (and this is an extremely important distinction), if the event involves public prayers with Muslims or Hindus, for example, I will not participate. Why? Because the people in the audience will perceive that I believe in the moral equivalency of our prayers. Or they will themselves wrongly assume that all prayers have moral equivalency, whether to Allah or to the 300 million gods of Hinduism. 
• The second error regarding the phrase “the Spirit of Jesus,” presents a nice, safe “interfaith,” multi-religious “Jesus” without His virgin birth, sinless life, death (atonement for our sins), burial, resurrection, and soon-coming return to earth as King. 

EQUAL NUMBER
Since the NPB in Washington, DC requires that an equal number of Democrats and Republicans are in leadership, that means that at least 50% of the leadership – the Democrats – of the “prayer” breakfast – somewhat more breakfast than prayer – are pro-abortion, pro-same sex (so called) “marriage,” (ala Sodom), and pro-transgender. If one went back 15 or so years, there were still pro-life, pro-marriage Democrats left in the Congress. But not anymore. What is worse, 39 out of the approximately 220 Republican members of the House of Representatives voted in December of 2022 for a definition of marriage for which God destroyed Sodom. Thus some of the Republicans are likewise unwilling to stand for historic, biblical, orthodox marriage. 
 
APPEAL
The prayer that God honors is the prayer from a broken and contrite heart, humbled before a holy and righteous God whose Name will not be shared with another. And when we pray, He changes us, and we conform to Him and His ways. That would include embracing His definition of one man-one woman marriage. That would include protecting life in the womb. That would include the recognition that God created only male and female, and that He did not make mistakes when He created us. 

We should obey Him. We should bow before Him. In repentance. In humility. Seeking His Ways. Walking in His commandments. And may we all diligently pray for our leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-2), that they would faithfully and sincerely seek God’s will in prayer, and that they would not compromise in the two “woke” areas mentioned above.
 
NOW BACK TO CANADA – AND ITS NATIONAL PRAYER BREAKFAST
When I arrived in Canada, I by accident (or providence) ran into a person who could tell me lots about the background of Canada’s NPB. I explained to her the challenges of the NPB in the U.S.A. She assured me that Canada’s NPB was not like that, not at all. I rejoiced, and thus, went to the events of the next day with great anticipation.
 
THE MEMBERS OF THE PARLIAMENT
Whenever I am at a meeting of political leaders, which is very often, as they are being introduced, I immediately google them, to see where they stand on the issues. Thus as each member of Parliament was being introduced, and as they shared their testimonies, or before they read Scripture, or before they led in prayer, I was finding out who they were, based on how they voted. 

Predictably, the Conservatives stood for marriage and life in the womb, although apparently in varying degrees. I say “in varying degrees” because eloquent Pierre Poilievre is the leader of the Conservative Party, and thus is the leader of the Official Opposition (against the Liberals). Yet, he is strongly (and sadly) pro-abortion. To see a video of him stating his pro-abortion views, click on the picture above or watch it here.
 
And the liberals, not surprisingly, were all pro-abortion and anti-God’s definition of marriage. The “gap” was glaring. They were with their lips seemingly extolling Christ and the Bible, while voting against both.

The most obvious example was Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney. He read from the Bible. The next day – the very next day! – his party voted to make it illegal for preachers to preach freely from that very book. Candidly, I was deeply grieved in my spirit. The same hypocrisy that is manifested in the National Prayer Breakfast of the U.S.A., was evidenced in Canada’s NPB. I was saddened.

But there was more. NOT ONE SINGLE MEMBER OF THE PARLIAMENT WHO WAS ON THE PLATFORM – CONSERVATIVE OR LIBERAL – SAID ONE SINGLE WORD ABOUT BILL “C-9,” WHICH WAS TO BE VOTED ON THE VERY NEXT DAY! NOT ONE. 
 
THE JERUSALEM PRAYER BREAKFAST
The Canadian NPB ended on March 24th, Tuesday late morning. The Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast began at 1pm the same day, conveniently in the same room of the Shaw (formerly Rogers) Convention Center. The Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast was founded 10 years ago by Albert Veksler. There have been 9 of them in Jerusalem and 29 of them in other influencer, capital cities, all over the world.

Rosemary spoke at the JPB on a very germane topic: Canada’s heroic November 2000 repentance to the Jewish people for their role in rejecting them in 1939 before WW2. Rosemary had come to Canada in 2000 and was part of that profound event, thus she could give a first-hand report. I later spoke, tracing the history of 2000 years of international antisemitism.

Stockwell Day, a former member of Parliament was introduced. He openly decried the horrific C-9 bill that was about to be voted on. Faytene Grasseschi, a discerning spiritual and governmental activist, led the whole group in a gripping prayer as she fell to her knees, weeping and literally crying out to God regarding the C-9 bill.

The next morning, several members of Parliament spoke. One of them – Andrew Lawton – pled with us to all be aware of how horrible this C-9 bill was. What the National Prayer Breakfast failed to mention even once, the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast mentioned numerous times.
 
THE VOTE
We were informed that the vote on Bill C-9 would be Wednesday afternoon, March 25th. I was determined to attend the vote.

The actual Parliament building is under a 10 year remodel, thus we went to the temporary chamber. We arrived in the visitors’ gallery at the Parliament approximately 5pm, in time to hear Member of Parliament Andrew Lawton give a brilliant and impassioned plea to defeat C-9. Many other Conservatives spoke against the passage of the bill. Liberals failed to counter any of the objections of the Conservatives with any specificity, but merely resorted to bizarre accusations that the Conservatives were merely trying us Bill C-9 to raise funds for their cause.  

At approximately 6:40pm, the vote took place. The antichristian, antibiblical C-9 passed 186 to 137.

OBSERVATIONS
What shocked me the most was the fact that the galleries were essentially empty. I had called ahead, to try to reserve seats, concerned that there would be no room. We got there, and our little delegation of nine was it. But the galleries were 95% empty. I believe four other persons came later. There were approximately 200 seats. Almost all of them were empty. Somehow I expected that Christians from all over the nation, or at least from the city of Ottawa, with a metropolitan population of almost 1.5 million, would have filled the visitors’ gallery. I was wrong. I am not sure how to understand that.

We left the Parliament building after the devastating vote. It had gotten dark. The temperatures had dropped somewhat. The wind had picked up. It was snowing. Having lived in San Diego’s perfect weather for the past three decades, I could hard take the cold, especially the wind. My hands were almost numb trying to arrange for an Uber. But it was not the weather that bothered me. It was that I had just witnessed the loss of freedom in a nation that has, in years past, had a proud history of being a Christian-based nation.

SCRIPTURES IN THE BUILDING
What is amazing is Canada’s wonderful Christian heritage. The Parliament Building has many scriptures in its stained glass windows. A Canadian woman named Lynette Bloedow, who spoke at the JPB, has written a wonderful book on it, titled The Legacy of 25 Scripture Verses on Parliament Hill. In 2023, I interviewed Bob Beasley about his book titled One Dominion, which he co-authored with Paul Richardson, regarding Canada’s rich Christian history.

This history is borne out by the words of the introductory preamble to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms: “Whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law.” Those words were not written two hundred of years ago, like one might presume. At the IberoAmerican (Latin America, the Caribbean & Spain) Congress for Life and the Family in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, starting off in the National Assembly (Capital Building), with 17 nations represented. Our second one attended after last year in Uruguay. I spoke on Friday. You would be so encouraged. A strong movement to protect true marriage and life in the womb. And a strong pro life, pro marriage movement among youth too.

I gave the Spanish version of REVERSED (in Spanish, title is “Sal Del Engaña” or “Don’t Be Deceived”) to the President of the Dominican Republic.

Well, she is really the Vice President, but since President Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona is out of the country, in Chile, Vice President Raquel Peña Rodríguez is the “Acting President.”

Her speech on defending life and marriage was awesome.

Of the flags of nearly 200 countries in the world, only one - the Dominican Republic - has an open Bible on it … open to “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” Thirty other flags have Christian symbols, but only one has the Bible.

The elected officials, and even the youth here in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic at the IberoAmerican Congress for Life and Family, chant “the Bible is at the center!” How refreshing.

Speaking at the IberoAmerican (Latin America, the Caribbean Islands & Spain - 33 countries) Congress on Life and the Family.

Many elected senators, deputies (representatives), other officials, and faith leaders gathered in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, which is the only nation in the world to have an open Bible in the middle of its flag (“you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”), thus the theme of the conference is “With the Bible in the Center.”

Christopher Columbus never set foot on what is now called the United States. He first landed in what is today called the Bahamas. However, his first established settlement was in what is today called the Dominican Republic, in late 1492.

So important was the worship of the Lord, that by the next year, 1493, they had built their first little church called Ermita (pictured).

By 1504 they had enough artisans to begin to work on a cathedral (pictured) which they completed 1530, a rather stunning accomplishment.

Now… I bet (well I don’t bet) that you never knew the following:
1) Thus the first church ever built in the “New World” - the Americas - was in the Dominican Republic.

2) The first cathedral ever built in the New World was in the Dominican Republic.

3)The first university in the New World was in the Dominican Republic.

4) The first monastery in the New World was in the Dominican Republic.

5) The Dominican Republic is the only country in the world which has an open Bible on its flag. It is open to the Gospel of John where it says “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free."

6) The Dominican Republic had the first ever military fort anywhere in the New World.

7) The Dominican Republic had the first ever paved street, and that was in the early 1500s.

8) And the Dominican Republic was the only country during World War II to open their arms to the Jewish people.

This is the remarkable Congresswoman Milagros Aguayo, and her brilliant strategist husband Guillermo, both pastors in Peru. This power couple, working as a team, have caused Milagros to be able to write, sponsor and get passed a staggering 60 pieces of great pro-life, pro-family legislation through the Peruvian Congress.

She was one of many members of Congress from the 27 represented nations who spoke at the IberoAmerican Congress on Life and the Family in the Dominican Republic, where I also had the privilege of speaking on Friday.

This young couple from Peru is in their 20s and is rallying other 20somethings to get politically-governmentally involved, with a scriptural foundation.

This woman with the flag of Venezuela is standing firm for biblical governance in her country. She has devoured REVERSED and wanted WELL VERSED.

The young man with us is a newly elected Congressman from Costa Rica and is our Well Versed representative in that country. He was so excited to get my books.

When Christopher Columbus arrived in the New World, in what is now called the Dominican Republic, he discovered cacao, or chocolate.

He wrote in his journal, “The trip was worth it just for the chocolate!”

Okay, he didn’t really write that. I admit it, I made it up. But that is what I would have written in my journal had I been him!

A highlight of our trip to the Dominican Republic was a visit to the KAHKOW Chocolate factory and store, which included free samples. Yes!

Hey, they taught us that chocolate (well, at least dark chocolate) is healthy!

Yesterday, on Fox News Sunday, Senator Mark Warner repeatedly told host Shannon Bream that Iran did not pose an imminent threat to the United States.

But is that actually true?

We interviewed special guest Barbara Ledeen on this topic on the World Prayer Network. She is extremely credentialed, having served as the Director of Communications at the Department of Defense for 8 years during the Reagan Administration. She previously served for 6 years as the Director of Coalitions for the Senate Republican Conference, and for 16 years on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Barbara is also the Founder and Director of the Independent Women's Forum.

Additionally, she is the widow of the recently deceased Michael Ledeen, a historian who wrote over 35 books studying the evolution and development of mass movements, from fascism to communism to Islam. He was one of the first Western writers to analyze the 1979 Iranian revolution, arguing that Ayatollah Khamenei was a "theocratic fascist" and that the regime was inherently hostile to the United States from its inception. He developed deep knowledge of Iran and its people and had forged a network of Iranians who opposed the regime both inside and outside Iran.

Jesse Jackson’s funeral was today in Chicago.

In his younger days, he was a powerful force for civil rights. He was quite amazing. And he was an advocate for getting people off additions and the streets, to become productive citizens. He was amazing. He would have young people chant, “Up with hope, Down with dope!” I so respected him. In fact, he was to be the speaker at my Ph.D. graduation (historical theology) at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. The journey to get my doctorate was a long, long quest (as anyone knows who goes to a bona fide, reputable doctoral-granting institution).

Added to that was the spectacular setting for Drew’s graduation. The graduates would march across the majestic campus, filled with enormous oak trees, and be seated on folding chairs in the beautiful lawn facing Mead Hall, an antebellum appearing structure whose massive back porch became the stage for the event. I was so excited that Jesse Jackson was to be the speaker for this 1979 event. I had been in school, full time, non-stop, from age 6 to age 32. (I earned 3 masters degrees before the doctorate. Why three, you ask? Because the Bible says, “No man can have two masters,” so I got a third! Now you know! LOL). 
 
The day came. I was so excited. However…however…it began to rain. In fact, it poured. The event was moved indoors. At that time, Drew University did not have the nice gym is does today. It was an old, extremely cramped building.

What is more? Jesse Jackson became ill. So the university officials asked a neighbor to the Madison, New Jersey campus to speak. His name? Alan Alda. Yes – THAT Alan Alda, of M*A*S*H. (Some of you are too young to remember MAS*H, an immensely popular TV series.) I was so disappointed. I wanted to hear Jesse. We got Alan.
 
The undergraduates decided to make it a party, and brought liquor bottles hidden under their graduation gowns. I don’t need to tell you how undignified the event became. The gym was jammed, so severely overcrowded. And smelly. With everyone having come in drenched from the rain, and given the high humidity, the aroma resembled that of a high school boys locker room. I was so disappointed. (At least, I received my degree!)
 
But there was something else that disappointed me after that. Jesse Jackson disappointed me. Lots. You see, he was a preacher. But like many preachers who lose their biblio-centricity, he departed from the Word of God.

Jackson was the first person ever to support LGBT in a national political convention. While he was speaking at the 1984 Democratic National Convention, he was the first ever to work in the words “lesbian” and “gay” in a speech. And in 1993, he would be a strong advocate at the “March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay and Bi Equal Rights and Liberation.” As a pastor, tragically, he stopped teaching on the sacredness of marriage (Please view: The Sacredness of Marriage) in order to support that for which God destroyed Sodom.
 
How tragic it is when a person starts off life so powerfully, but fails to finish strong. 
 
Prayer: “Lord, Help me to finish strong…true to your Word. Amen.”

On February 2, 2026, I had the privilege of speaking to the Freedom Caucus, a group of biblically grounded Members of Congress. What a joy it was to be with persons who are centered on truth. Be encouraged. There are some godly Congressmen and Congresswoman. We praise God for them. And there are hundreds of godly and patriotic state senators and state representatives all across the 50 state legislatures. Be encouraged. Truth and righteousness, given enough time, have a way of rising to the top.

I know that March the 4th is almost over. But I need to tell you what this day means to me.
 
March the 4th is a sacred day to me. Why? March 4th became "March forth" in 2012. 
 
Here is the story. (This was written sometime in 2018, while I was the Senior Pastor of Skyline Church, in the suburbs of San Diego, CA.)

Skyline Church is an amazing place. I am prejudiced. I admit it. I always felt it was one of the greatest churches on earth. It has had a splendorous 64-year history (Editorial note: 64 years as of the time of the writing of this in 2018).
 
But there is one thing in which we have been challenged: building buildings. But through it all, God has been faithful and we persevered. 
 
The only time a building program was “easy” was 1954 when some generous and godly brothers built the first little church structure for the non-existent congregation and gave it to them on their opening Sunday in July of that year. Ever since then, it has been hard. And that is putting it mildly.

Burned down: Skyline Church began with 200 people its first Sunday, unheard of in a time when 200 persons was considered a large church. 

The reason? The proactive community outreach of the Founding Pastor Orval Butcher. He was brilliantly talented, a joyful and delightful human being. He could sing first tenor as good as anyone you ever heard. And he could play the piano as he sang. But it was so much more than that. He was full of joy. Although he was six inches or more shorter than most men in the room, in personality and spirit, he was a towering giant. His powerful, yet pleasing voice could be heard anywhere without a microphone. 
 
So good was his music that he had, at one time, traveled with a young (and rather unknown at the time) Youth for Christ (a then famous youth movement) evangelist named Billy Graham. And he was the “best man” at the wedding of Cliff Barrows, the man who led the music at Billy Graham Crusades for 60 plus years. 
 
Skyline – as a baby church – grew so rapidly that they soon needed an educational complex – a frame, two story building with lots of classrooms. Back in that day, it was not unusual for church buildings to be built by “volunteer labor,” meaning that the men of the church came together evenings and on Saturdays and would build it themselves, often with the women serving them meals as they worked. Such it was for Skyline’s new Sunday School building. 
 
They were 80% done with the building when it caught fire and burned to the ground. The men arrived to work on the building the next day, stunned to see what had become of their months of labor. 
 
As Pastor Oval Butcher described it, they stood in the charred remains, with soot on their faces and began to sing praises to God. He said that “white trails” marked the places where tears ran down their cheeks, clearly pathways in the midst of the soot on their faces. 

That was only an omen of what was coming next. Yet in spite of the future struggles, God was faithful and the people persevered. 
 
The congregation quickly outgrew their original sanctuary and needed a much larger one. 

Can’t Build: Construction began on a rather remarkably designed worship center. But they ran out of money. Construction on the new 900 seat auditorium (very large in that day) ground to a halt. Funds were simply inadequate to continue. The huge slab of concrete that formed the base for the main sanctuary was quite conspicuous. Added to that was the fact that the design of the roof shot some 40 feet in the air. As such, huge steel girders pointed heavenward over the massive slab of concrete when the construction ground to a halt.

Construction ended in 1969. It remained in that condition for five long years, until 1974. Founding Pastor Orval Butcher one time confided in me his pain during that long struggle with the words, “the community mocked us.” 
 
But God was faithful and the people persevered. 
 
Finally, the new building was completed. Years passed. The ministry of Skyline Church was stunning. Then in 1981, Pastor Butcher shifted from pastoral ministry to a ministry of caring for missionaries throughout the globe. A new pastor was called.

Needing Room Again: After Orval Butcher served the church as pastor for 27 years, he was followed by John Maxwell who served as pastor for 14 years. John Maxwell was as talented a leader as the world has ever seen. So much so that he has become the world’s most respected leadership expert, selling millions of books on the topic and lecturing around the globe to massive audiences. 
 
But building a church proved to be a challenge again. A young John Maxwell arrived and began immediately impacting his community. Rapid growth happened. Multiple services were added. They needed more room. The design of the auditorium allowed them to “push the side walls out some,” but that did not make room for the people who were flocking to the church. 
 
Finally, it became apparent that they could not expand the land locked campus. After months of searching, the congregation settled on the purchase of “the mountain,” actually a very steep hill, but affectionately called “the mountain.” But the purchase of the 130-acre mountain was only the beginning of challenges. 
 
Before one can build you have to get a building permit. Funds were raised, plans were made, but no permission to build was granted. In fact, some in the community rose up to stop this project. This was occurring as radical environmentalists were making it difficult to build in California, so it was a bit of a shock to the young pastor and his growing congregation that they could not build on their own land. 
 
The topography of the mountain made a campus almost impossible. The community’s lack of support hampered things further. The environmentalists claimed that there were endangered species on the mountain. Pastor Maxwell and his courageous congregation tried to address all of these. To continue funding the project, another multi-year financial campaign took place. And another one. And another. 
 
Exhausted, the congregation occasionally wondered if they would ever have a new church campus. John Maxwell would later say, “It was some of the best leadership I ever gave. It is easy to lead when everything is going great. It is hard to keep momentum when so much is going wrong. No one will ever know it, but it was some of the best leadership I ever gave.” And he is right. The congregation could have been demoralized and have scattered. They did not. He managed to not merely hold them together, but helped the church continue to thrive, both numerically and spiritually. Such was John’s exceptional leadership. 

While the new buildings were not built, people were. On the outside, it might not have looked great. But internally, much good was happening.
 
And through it all, God was faithful and the people persevered. 
 
But slowly the years clicked by. No church was built. John had come in 1981. It was now 1995. The church had tripled in size under his leadership. But his calling was becoming increasingly “national.” He was in demand everywhere as the nation’s top leadership teacher. 
 
The demands and pulls of so many other places finally caused John Maxwell to realize that he would need to turn the church over to someone else. He announced that information in February of 1995. He left in July of that year. I began as pastor in mid-October 1995. Little did I know what lay ahead regarding Skyline’s already complicated building program.
The church had faced a seemingly unending litany of difficulties. But through it all, God was faithful and the people persevered.

The view: The church was not allowed to build on the east end of the property, so it had drawings done for the mountain top but nearby residents objected to an obstructing of their view. Finally, plans were drawn for a third location on the mountain. In the process, precious time was lost and the costs were rapidly increasing.
 
The bird: Environmentalists claimed that there were two birds (not two species) – California Black Tailed Gnatcatchers – that were on the property and were endangered. Later it was admitted that they were not endangered, but rather governmental officials had only counted the ones on the US side of the border, not those on the Mexico side, where most of the birds lived. The two birds cost us millions of dollars. 
 
The bush: There were laws that we could not build where the coastal sage bush was growing, or as one person stated it, “might someday grow.” That halted our building extensively. 
 
The road: A state highway was slated to someday run through the property. It took years to get this plan changed. 
 
The rock: A darkened rock, in the minds of some, that some native American’s had started a bonfire 6,000 years ago. This “darkened” rock required us to hire 29 archeological digs – with spoons and toothbrushes – the last of which cost $29,000.
 
The shard: A pottery shard the size of a thumbnail was found, convincing some bureaucrats that there had evidently been Jamacha Indians living on this land possibly 1,000 years ago. Therefore, we had to put down a “geo-mat” and a “soil cap” over this area (in case there might be more shards down there) and we lost – for perpetuity (that means forever) the right to have a parking lot over those areas.
 
The land: We owned seven acres across the freeway from our church property. The land around it was owned by our county. The county happen to own three acres that was adjacent to our property on our side of the freeway. So I made a proposal that I knew the county officials would love: we would swap land. They would get our seven acres for their three acres. What a great deal for them, right? But a county official declined my offer. Why not, I asked. It was explained that their three acres was worth $700,000. Our seven acres was worth nothing. 

How could this be, I asked. Because the county officials had declared our land to be “open space,” a legal term meaning that we would never be able to sell it. Ever. And we had to maintain it to certain standards. And that has continued to this day. 
 
The light: Our light poles in the parking lot were to be anywhere from fourteen to twenty feet tall. However, it was claimed that we would create “light pollution” for an observatory, located over 50 miles away. The bureaucrats insisted that we make our light poles three feet tall. That might work great if your cars are six inches tall!
 
The damage: When I grew up, buildings on property were called “improvements.” But in California, buildings on property is considered “damage.” Thus, we had to “mitigate” the damage we caused. How? We owned 130 acres. First, we were allowed to build on only 25 of the acres. Secondly, we had to send surveyors out into the unoccupied and impassable mountains far to the east of us, where they would stake out a claim of 25 acres, and we would have to purchase it for $150,000 and then turn the deed to that property over to a quasi-governmental organization. Thus, we did exactly that. (That organization went bankrupt later.) Why would bureaucrats require such a plan? It was apparently thought that any wildlife on our 25 acres would somehow find their way to the 25 acres we had been coerced to purchase many miles somewhere into the mountains east of us. 

For obvious reasons, the congregation was becoming exhausted. But through it all, God was faithful and the people persevered.

After dealing with all of the above challenges, we finally got a permit to build on August 21, 1997. The church had begun the building process in the early 1980’s! We now needed to raise funds. Lots of them! 
 
On Sunday evening, 3,500 Skyliners descended on the downtown San Diego Convention Center which was converted into a massive banquet hall. Before the night was over, $7,851,638 in pledges came in. 
 
Now – finally – we thought, surely our challenges would be over. We were wrong. They got worse. But through it all, God was faithful and the people persevered.

The granite: A seismic refraction – essentially an x-ray – was done of the mountain, costing $38,000. This would tell us how much blasting was needed and how much earthwork could be done without blasting. Tragically, the report contained a tiny – but significant – clerical error. The result? The multi-million dollar blasting contract was seriously underestimated. I was informed that the mountain contained considerably more “blue granite” than thought. This blue granite, I was told, is six times stronger than concrete. They explained that they would have to close the freeway in front of our property in order to blast. In all, ten blasts occurred at a total increase just to the blasting contract alone of $1,000,000.
 
The dig: Regretfully two large water pipes had to be laid along the freeway the entire length of our property. In digging, we hit blue granite again. Price tag: $192,000.
 
The expansion: We were required by the State of California to widen highway 94 in front of our property and pay for traffic lights. Widening: $2,000,000. Traffic lights: $25,000.
 
The design: Earthquake laws changed on January 1 of that year, before we could get construction underway. Additional steel required: $856,000.
 
The truck: In order for the Fire Department to sign off on our building, we had to make a “voluntary” contribution to the purchase of a new fire truck, amounting to $12,000. This “voluntary” practice was later stopped. 
 
The cable: While widening the freeway, our equipment barely scrapped an undulating (a line which inexplicably elevated upward, near the surface) telephone cable. The phone company demanded we replace the cable for the full length of the property, with a price tag of $750,000. Fortunately, we knew our rights and were able to say “no” to their demands, and merely paid out around $20,000 for a concrete slurry (essentially a covering). 
 
The move: With the building essentially done, we were excited to get permission to move over 40 employees into the building on March 20, 2000. Hundreds and hundreds of boxes were moved into the new offices. The next day, the Fire Department informed us that they all had to be moved out! However, we had left our old offices. Thus all 40+ employees had to work out of their homes for the next five weeks. 
 
The signal: I had asked the general contractor many months prior to opening, “When will the building be totally done so we can move in, because I am going to advertise the opening weekend.” I was told, “April 14-15, that building will be done.” But things did not go as promised. We were down to only 24 hours before our weekend opening service. 
 
The California Department of Transportation declared that all 15 under-pavement sensors would have to be working. On Friday night at 6pm on April 14, 2000, the asphalt for the freeway extension in the five lanes coming onto our property was just being laid. 
 
At 3am on Saturday morning, electricians began installing sensors. At 11am on Saturday morning, computer programmers began to program traffic signals. At noon on Saturday, April 15, 2000, we were given approval for the use of the building for a 6pm service. 
 
The rush: Although the opening weekend date had been promised months before, the building was behind schedule. Two hundred construction workers worked seven days a week, twelve-hourshifts, with some crews going all night.
 
The “party:” Officials would not allow anything to be moved into the building until Friday, April 14, 2000 at 5pm. That meant we had only 25 hours to get the building ready for our Saturday night 6pm service. Two hundred volunteers worked from Friday 5pm on. Two hundred more showed up on Saturday to continue the work. We finished in the nick of time for the 6pm Saturday night service on April 15, 2000.

Finally, the day came! Almost 5,100 Skyliners and community well-wishers worshipped on the mountain on April 15-16, 2000. We wept and rejoiced! We had finally made it to the mountain! Through it all, God had been faithful and the people had persevered. 
 
We were finally moved to “the mountain.” 
 
But we had no idea what lay ahead for us. Our “season of sorrow” was not yet over. But through all that was to follow, God was faithful and the people persevered.

The overrun: Four months later, we were stunned when the construction manager informed us a substantial cost overrun of several million dollars.
 
The heartbreak: Our property – being so newly developed – lacked adequate ground cover. All trees and shrubs across the twenty-five acres were small and just beginning growth. In Southern California, we get less than ten inches of rain a year and almost all of it comes in the three winter months. We were now facing the prospect of soil erosion from water runoff. We needed to lay a “mat” as a ground protector. We had been informed that any soil runoff into the gutters could result in a $98,000 fine. In our desperation to avoid a huge fine, we did not properly vet the contractor that offered his services. We would later severely regret this error. 
 
The re-application: Although the building was done, the freeway that we had to widen had not been signed off by state authorities. The work permit on the freeway expired and thus we were required to get a new permit to work. In a style so typical of bureaucracy, this process took a massive amount of time and hundreds of hours of paperwork. Permit to begin construction again was finally obtained in June of 2001.
 
The jolt: Although we had carefully vetted the overall project construction manager, we began to get reports of defective components in some of the construction. 
 
The arbitration: We were forced into arbitration from a construction company that had shortchanged the width of our sidewalks by one foot. We won. Hands down. We were reimbursed $400,000. An appellate judge, simply looking for some way to reverse this, found a technicality where some paperwork had not been properly filed by our attorney, and reversed this, not on the merits of the case, but on the technicality of the misfiled paperwork, reversed the decision, and made the church pay back the total amount, plus court costs. 
 
The shock: On a Friday morning newspaper, the headlines stunned us. Our attorney whom we loved had some serious personal legal challenges. Our case was now rather “seasoned” and “matured”, meaning that changing the attorney now would be extremely challenging. Unfortunately, we had to remove him from the case. Tragically, he and his wife would later go to prison. 
 
The mediation: Mediation regarding our building and freeway construction defects extended from 2003 to 2006. I was exhausted beyond description by this process. So was our congregation. 
 
The tragedy: With all the changes, and with all the litigation issues, we had a project manager who was managing our property. He did great work. But unknown to us, he had deep personal problems in his private life and took his life. We were stunned.
 
The double tragedy: His assistant now assumed the role as project manager. One December afternoon, this 58-year-old left work, sat in a Lazy Boy recliner in his home, and had a heart attack and died. Again, we were stunned.

But then – after all this tragedy and sorrow and calamity – finally came the victory! On May 2006, officials signed off on our entire site, including the freeway. We were depleted. But we were once again rejoicing. We had survived! Through it all, God had been faithful and the people had persevered.

Five years later, I challenged my congregation to build “the big one,” a much larger complex: 2,000 seat auditorium, 200 seat chapel, café, large multi-purpose atrium, gymnasium, family room, mezzanine, conference rooms, meeting rooms, recording studio and offices. 
 
After all the congregation had been through, how did they respond? “Yes, let’s do it again!” And they did. How could they? Because through it all, God had been faithful and the people had persevered. 
 
I joyfully report that we built this building without any major challenges – on time – and within budget! And it is breathtaking. From 2009 to 2012 the congregation gave and gave and gave. 
 
Looking across the entire time, from 1988 to 2018, the congregation has been through ten major fund-raising campaigns. Skyline does not number in the tens of thousands. And we are not a rich church. 
 
But Skyline is comprised of generous people with sacrificial hearts. And they knew that through it all, God would be faithful and the people would persevere.
 
With all the problems from the beginning to the end, stretching over three decades, the total project cost well over $50,000,000. 
 
It is a miracle that on “March fourth” (2012), the congregation got to “march forth” into our new auditorium complex. 
 
God saw us through, and we did make it! Through it all, the congregation persevered. Our remarkable church board persevered. They never gave up. 
 
Dan Grant, our brilliant Executive Pastor, who oversaw these massive challenges, persevered. He never despaired. 
 
And most of all, God was faithful.
 
And now you know that March 4th is a sacred day. 
 
On this March 4, 2026, I remember what happened 14 years ago, March 4, 2012, when we had the joy to “March forth!”

Thank you so much for your interest in this book and for your support of Well Versed.

In 2007, Carrie Prejean (pronounced pra-SHAWN), an evangelical Christian, competed in the Miss California pageant. In the 2008 competition, she was the runner up. In 2009, she won the title of Miss California.

Later in 2009, she competed in the Miss USA pageant, and boldly stood her ground when asked an intentional “gotcha” type question by Perez Hilton, a homosexual columnist and a judge at the event. Hilton later wrote, "She lost it because of that question. She was definitely the front-runner before that.” Honorably, Prejean refused to abandon her Christian faith in order to assuage the judges’ anti-Christian bias, and thus win the competition by compromising. 

What did she say that was so controversial? She said that she believed marriage was defined as one man-one woman. She did not, as Perez Hilton had hoped, support same sex (so called) "marriage."
 
The avalanche of hate towards her was massive. It became a national story. She was threatened. Her pastor, Miles McPherson of The Rock Church in San Diego, was a friend of mine. Through him, I invited Carrie to speak at Skyline Church, where I was then pastoring. On one occasion (and I cannot recall the background to this), another man and I drove Carrie and her mother to some meeting, being with them for protective reasons. We respected her highly.

On June 26, 2009, I posted on Facebook how proud we were of her. 
 
In 2010, she married NFL player Kyle Boller, and in 2025 she was appointed to President Trump’s Religious Liberty Commission, a very high honor. I was in the Rose Garden at the White House May 1, 2025, when Prejean and the other members of this important commission were announced. I was proud of her appointment. Until… Until… Monday, Feb 9, 2026, just three days ago.

On February 9, the Religious Liberty Commission had one of their regular meetings at the Museum of the Bible. We had been in Washington, DC the previous week, and even pondered possibly staying over the weekend to attend the hearing, but instead, opted to come home to San Diego.

During the Monday proceedings, I began getting texts from Well Versed Representative Holly Sorell in the audience, reporting that Carrie Prejean Boller seemed to be belligerent and proceeded to dominate the discussion. She demonstrated an argumentative spirit.
 
I later watched the replays and was shocked at Prejean’s subtle – or maybe not so subtle – antisemitism. She claims she is not antisemitic, but that she is an anti-Zionist. She holds the indefensible position that you can be anti-Zionist while not being antisemitic. This is an irrational and intellectually indefensible claim.

Let’s review what Zionism is. The “father of Zionism” is Theodor Herzl (1860-1904). A Zionist is one who believes that the Jews (1) have a right to exist, (2) have a right to have a homeland, (3) have a right to gather there, and (4) have a right to defend themselves. Period. That is it.

Apparently Carrie illogically believes that she is not antisemitic, while believing that the Jews do not have a right to exist, have a homeland, a right to gather in that homeland, and have no right to defend themselves.

The Carrie I once knew was convictional, but a gracious woman. That Carrie was absent on Monday. What appeared was a woman who had been schooled in the vitriol of Candace Owens. It had “Candace overtones” to it. Carrie was reading her questions off of her phone, prompting some to wonder if Candace was texting questions to her and goading Carrie on. In her comments, Carrie referred to Candace as well. 
 
It seemed that Carrie wanted to pounce whenever she could. She argued. Not once, but ongoing. She attempted to entrap and humiliate. Her tone was stunning. I was quite shocked by her domineering style. 
 
In addition, she served notice on several occasions that she was now a Catholic. She converted to Catholicism in 2025. It has been said that there is nothing quite like the unregulated zeal of a new convert, and Carrie demonstrated that. She stated that Catholics are not Zionists and do not see Israel as having any eschatological significance. (She needed to be challenged that the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics are not monolithic, as demonstrated by Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi’s violation of the Catholic position on abortion.)
 
Carrie accused Israel of killing thousands of children, regurgitating the worn-out, debunked claim of Hamas. And she even semi-scolded one of the speakers, wanting to make sure he was not “Islamophobic.” Our once brave evangelical beauty pageant winner has somehow morphed seemingly into a Jew-denigrating, Hamas-affirming, defender of Islam.

How did Carrie become like this? I do not know. I can only speculate. It appears that she may have become bewitched by the same demonic spirit that has taken Candace Owens. This is profoundly sad. Two very talented women, but both so misguided. 
 
The real irony is that the main purpose of Monday’s event was to discuss the rise of offensive antisemitism. Prejean, showing a lack of biblical truth, historical reality and situational awareness, turned it into an opportunity to demonstrate exactly what the Commission was to stand against. She outed herself as “Exhibit A” for antisemitism. It was a sad and embarrassing moment. 
 
In fact, Carrie’s domineering nature was so pronounced that Religious Liberty Commission Chairman Dan Patrick, the Lt. Governor of Texas, finally had to gavel her down.

After the event was over, in her online texts, she played victim, but also dared them to fire her. So, they did.

Dan Patrick wisely made that very decision and posted this on X:

What he did was right.

CONCLUSION:
Pray for Carrie. Pray for her to repent of her wrongful thinking.

Pray for Carrie to realize that it was the Jews who brought us (her included) the Torah, the Teaching, the Prophets, the Psalms, and the entire Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament). It was the Jews who brought us the Messiah, and all of the New Testament (except the book of Luke).

Jesus was a Jew. So were his original followers. The church began with Jews. The Jewish faith provides the very foundations of all that we, as Christians, believe. Pray that Carrie become discerning, learning that we are profoundly indebted to the Jews.

What about her view of Israel? Pray for that too.
 
Israel was promised to Abraham and his descendants. “From the Tigris to the Nile” would be 300,000 square miles. That is what God promised to them. Under King David, they controlled approximately 200,000 square miles. How much does Israel have today? A tiny 8,000 square miles. So according to God’s Word, they deserve a lot more land, not less. 
 
Almost all of the Old Testament is set in Israel. From 1400 BC on, the Israelites were in Israel, until the Exile, then returned until the destruction of 70 AD (although some Jews were in Israel throughout the centuries that followed). From 1000 BC until 70 AD, the Jews lived in present day Jerusalem. Thus most of Jewish history is tied to the land, their land, called Israel.

Jesus was born in Israel. He taught and traveled in Israel. He was crucified for our sins in Jerusalem. He was in the grave three days in Jerusalem. He resurrected in Jerusalem. His post resurrection appearances were in and around Jerusalem. He ascended to heaven from Jerusalem. He will descend from heaven to Jerusalem someday. He will rule from Jerusalem. The nations will someday stream to Jerusalem.

Carrie even repeated the old lie that “the Jews killed Jesus”. They did not. In fact, the Roman soldiers did not kill Jesus either.

My sins and your sins – and yes, even Carrie’s sins – are what killed Jesus. He died for our sins. Jesus clearly said that no man could take His life, but rather that He laid it down Himself.

Pray that Carrie and Candace – oh yes, and Tucker too – all repent, see the truth, and drop their antisemitic rants. (Note: It is reported that Tucker is scheduled to interview Ambassador Mike Huckabee - Read here Now that will be interesting.)
 
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

There is an old saying, “He who reaches for the world, reaches for a pen.” If we update that, it might be, “He who reaches for the world, reaches for a keyboard.”
 
I have written 27 books. Candidly, writing is hard. There is another saying, “No one likes writing a book, but everyone likes having written a book.” The writing journey requires discipline. Lots of discipline. It is not easy. But like the “birthing of a baby,” authors rejoice when they finally see the “baby,” the completed book. 
 
I have had many people tell me, “I am going to write a book someday.” My response is, “No, not someday. Start today. Write one chapter today. Or at least the first few pages. Don’t be an Apollos.” 
 
They look puzzled when I say, “Don’t be an Apollos.” I continue, “Apollos and Paul were both great preachers in the New Testament. Paul wrote and wrote, and we have almost half the New Testament. Apollos never wrote, and we don’t have a clue what he said. Don’t be an Apollos.”

I have tried to be faithful to the “writing calling” on my life. I wrote my first 300 page manual in 1980. Well, the very rough precedent of it was actually around 1978, and I have not stopped writing since. I have now written 27 books, either by myself or with a co-author. That does not count either articles, or another ten or so chapters which I have written for other people in their books. 
 
I only write “if a book is boiling in my belly.” I don’t write for the sake of writing. I cannot do that.
 
There have been seasons when I was cranking out one book per year. There have been other times when I wrote nothing for several years. I have to “feel the book inside me” in order to write it. 
 
However, my reason for telling you this is not about me or my books. I am writing to thank you. Those of you who support Well Versed (and those who have been encouragers to me for the many decades before Well Versed) have made it possible for me to write. 
 
Writing allows me to go to 10s of 1,000s of places all at once. Thank you! Thank you for being an encourager and a supporter of my use of the pen (or the keyboard). 
 
You have purchased my books. Many of you have purchased cases of my books and distributed them. Thank you.

Thank you for allowing me to take you on a rather long – 45 year – journey of my 27 books. Once again, if you are so led, join the “writing team” to help me publish the first two books on this list, #1 and #2 above. We need to raise the funds to produce these books in 2026.

In late 2022, I sensed God was nudging me to launch a new event. I called our good friend Pam Pryor, formerly the Senior Bureau Official for International Organization Affairs with the US State Department, who previously led the original Trump Faith Advisory Board during the 2016 election, and a friend to Well Versed. I called Mike Farris, the attorney who led the amazing Alliance Defending Freedom organization. I shared my thoughts. They said, “Go for it.”

I called Congressman Mike Johnson (before he became Speaker of the House). He responded affirmatively with one word repeated three times, “Repentance, Repentance, Repentance.”

I called Tony Perkins who leads the Family Research Council. He said, “Let’s do it.” We discussed various names. He recommended the “National Gathering for Prayer and Repentance.” That was late 2022. We had little time to prepare for the February 2023 event.
 
The is not your traditional “prayer breakfast” which can be all breakfast and no prayer. Ours is all prayer and no breakfast. And it begins as early as 7am or 6:30am, so you really have to want to come to it. 
 
Members of Congress came, ones that were truly born again. Nationally known faith leaders came. But all came in the spirit of humility before God. There was no “grandstanding.” 
 
Persons on the stage had/have only one minute. They pray. They do not talk to the audience. No speeches. They talk to God. They pray. They pray prayers of repentance, either for personal sins, sin in the church (if they are a faith leader or pastor), or America’s national sins (if they are an elected official). Interwoven among the prayers is deep worship. Allow me to summarize: God shows up.

The first National Gathering for Prayer and Repentance was remarkable. God blessed it.

The second annual National Gathering for Prayer and Repentance occurred February 2024. This year we added internationals. We had former Prime Ministers and Members of Parliament from across Europe.

The second and third years included an add-on at the end, a focus on Israel.

In addition to the early morning prayer event was a night-before reception at the Capitol Hill Club located a block from the US Capital Building. 
 
And (this is where you come in), it is happening again. It is costly to do this event. To be candid, it cost nearly $200,000. (Events in cities like DC are profoundly costly.) Given the effort and costs, why do we do it? We believe that America, that is Americans, need to repent before a holy and righteous God. Candidly, given the egregious immorality, we deserve judgment. And it still might come in unimaginable ways. But like Abraham who sought for 10 righteous in Sodom, we seek those who will “stand in the gap” for this nation.

It will consist of over 20 courses, designed to help young persons (well, actually any person) to understand governmental and political issues from a biblical perspective. 
 
We have worked on this for years. But it will finally happen in February.
This is an endeavor to put so many equipping tools into one learning location. Your year-end giving will make this possible.

Closely related to that will be our 250th American birthday curriculum titled, “More Than Fireworks,” designed to equip you for the future.

2) In addition, early February will be the release of our newest book, “The Executive Orders of President Donald J. Trump: A Biblical Perspective,” which analyzes 200 Executive Orders. It will come out early February.

First, our trip to Taiwan was one of the greatest governmental trips ever. My heart is overflowing with what I call the recent “big three:” (1) our best trip to Israel, (2) followed by a stunning trip to Armenia (read about it here), and (3) now this trip to Taiwan. I so wish I could pack you all up and take us with us on these trips. 
 
Secondly, I want to thank all of you who prayed for us. We really sensed it. Strongly! A “thank you” seems so inadequate, but thank you!
 
Thirdly, what do we do when we meet with high level government leaders? Answer: We take them to Psalms 33:12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,” and then we explain what that means. We give them a copy of Well Versed and Reversed, explaining that God has all the answers for how a government is supposed to function in the Bible, and that is how a nation can be blessed. (We have never met a government leader who did not want God’s blessing on his or her nation.)
 
Then, we pray God’s blessing upon them. (We always respectfully ask permission to prayer for them. We have never had a government leader refuse prayer.) We are totally open spiritually regardless if they are Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Taoist or whatever. We are respectful, but we are also share freely. We have been wonderfully received in every single meeting. We left sensing a wonderful friendship. We traveled over 18,000 miles. We had extra favor with the airlines in that we got “bumped up” from our economy seats, to our surprise, to business class for the 13 hour flight to Taiwan. And eight days later, a ticket agent graciously protected a “center seat” between us, to give us more room on our six hour flight from Washington DC (we went from Taiwan directly to DC for the Israel Allies Caucus event, and then home) to San Diego. 
 
Now, I want to take you on a quick “newsletter trip” to Taiwan with us, by way of some pictures and brief commentary.

We had some remarkable private meetings with numerous government officials. By the way, we only report those meetings for which we have permission to share, along with photos. There are some wonderful meetings that took place on this trip, for which we were sent the official photographs, but we are not at liberty to share those meetings. Suffice it to say, those meetings were spectacular. We will, however, openly discuss the meetings for which permission was granted.

The original connection point to Taiwan came through Bob Fu. He is a hero to us. He was at the famous Tiananmen Square, during those historic days in 1989. (Read here) Both he and his wife were later imprisoned by the Communists for their faith in Christ. Read his story here.  As we prepared to make this trip, Bob is the one who alerted Taiwanese governmental persons in Washington, DC, who then assisted us in making appointments while we were in Taiwan. 
 
Tragically, since January 1, 1979, the U.S. government does not officially recognize the country of Taiwan, thanks to President Jimmy Carter, and (unfortunately) only officially recognizes the Communist Peoples Republic of China, as opposed to Taiwan (the Republic of China). Therefore there is no official Taiwanese “Embassy” in Washington, DC. Taiwan is not even allowed to have an ambassador at the United Nations. 
 
Instead, in Washington, DC, the building is referred to as the Taipei Economical and Cultural Office (TECO). We are immensely grateful for the wonderful assistance of TECO, and also from the Office of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan which coordinated so many profitable meetings with high level government leaders. In addition, they graciously provided us a van and driver to assist us to all these meetings. We so appreciate them.

Also traveling with us was Charles Huang. He was born in Taipei, but has lived in California since age 12. Like many Asians, he come to America on his own at the age of 12, so he could learn American ways, and have an American education. This is not unusual for Asians. Many come at age 12 or 13. He has been a “spiritual son” to my wife Rosemary Schindler Garlow for many years. He translated for us when the government-provided translators were not with us, and looked out for us (along with Bob Fu), keeping us organized during the trip.

We had a remarkable time with Lin Chia-Lung, Taiwan Minister of Foreign Affairs. Met with him and other high ranking government officials. It is so important that the U.S. continues to stand with Taiwan as they face the threats from Communist China.

We LOVED being with Deputy Minister Tang-An Wu. He shared something that deeply moved our little group. He said, “I receive many delegations from the U.S. This meeting was the most moving one I have had in the entire year of 2025.”

We so loved being with all of these amazing people. We LOVE Taiwan. May the US stand with them!

We had an incredible - truly incredible - meeting with Pusin Tali, the Taiwan Ambassador at large for Religious Liberty. He was such a joy talk to!

We had a superb time with former Minister of Finance Joseph Lyu, asking him questions nonstop for 90 minutes. He is not only economically brilliant, serving on many international financial groups and banks, but is a profoundly strong follower of Jesus.

With Legislator Ju-Chun Ko, member of the Yuan (their Congress) and he is a brilliant high tech, AI expert. It was a fabulous meeting.

Allow me to give you a quick history of Taiwan:

• 1600s – the Dutch took control of the island, calling it Formosa 
• The Kingdom of Tungning wrestled control from the Dutch
• 1683 – the Qing Dynasty took control
• 1895 – Japan took control for 50 years, until 1945
• 1947 – Feb 28th – called “228 Massacre” in Taiwan – ordered by Chiang Kai-shek
• 1949 – 1980s – the “White Terror” – martial law
• 1987 – martial law ended
• 1996 – 1st direct presidential election 

Summary: Like Israel, Taiwan experienced much subjugation and oppression from outside forces.

Also, Taiwan is profoundly advanced in technology. Of the nearly 200 nations on the earth, the three top technologically advanced countries are:

1. United States
2. Israel
3. Taiwan

As a 7 or 8 year old, I remember hearing about him as a great warrior against Communism - before he was forced out of mainland China to Taiwan.

To younger generations, he is viewed as a ruthless autocrat. Like all political and military leaders, it is a “mixed bag.” The slaughter of Feb 28, 1947 was horrific. That is indefensible. And he was autocratic.

On the positive side, he was bold and courageous in fighting against the oppressive 50 year Japanese rule (1895-1945) over Taiwan, and he battled hard to keep Communism from overtaking China. He was forced to flee to Taiwan (called the Republic of China in contrast to the Communist Peoples Republic of China) in 1949.

I prefer to maintain my innocent childhood memories of him for the good things he did.

Looking to the future, and on a profoundly serious note, we heard from several persons that Communist China (called the Peoples Republic of China) plans to invade Taiwan (called the Republic of China) on or before 2027. We were given several reason for this timeline. Here is a timeline that was produced in the United States.

We will discuss this more in a future newsletter and a future World Prayer Network broadcast. This is a serious prayer concern.

Interviewed by Radio Taiwan International - the equivalent of our NPR (National Public Radio) - where I was totally free to share the truth of the Bible - broadcast all over the world - and especially into China - also by shortwave radio as well.

Fabulous visit with the brilliant Senhong Yang, called by some “the Sean Hannity of Taiwan.” He has an extensive academic background in medicine, dentistry and toxicology in universities in Taiwan and UC Berkeley. When he learned what poisons were going into our bodies daily, he left medicine and became an investigative reporter so he could warn the public what is happening to them.

Thanks to Ginny Chan for introducing us to Pastor Gordon Huang - whose church is called “Taipei 101 Church” - because it is located in Taipei 101 tower (101 floors), the tallest building in Taiwan. And thank God for Facebook. We walked in and Linda (pictured) greeted us as if we were best friends, with the words, “I know all about you. I follow you on Facebook.” Thank God for technology.

One of the fastest growing churches and movements in Taiwan is Bread of Life Church. Pastor Nathaniel Chow has an apostolic anointing on him, and is considered a primary “spiritual father of Taiwan.” His son Jonathan Chow pastors one of the largest churches in Taipei.

Pastor Lily Pan, who is a Lutheran Pastor, leads up a large Taiwan intercessory prayer network. I spent a lengthy time with her, trying to understand the “lay of the land” in the Taiwanese church.

In Taipei, Taiwan, with James Hudson Taylor IV (“Jamie”), the great grandson of one of the most famous missionaries ever - the great Hudson Taylor who died in 1901.

Taipei is a breathtakingly beautiful city and, in contrast to most large American cities, is profoundly clean. It has so many remarkable structures. I will just add one more, the amazing Grand Mayfull Hotel. 
 
We had very little time to sightsee, but for a portion of a day, we got to take in the beauty of this island. The Dutch called it “Formosa,” meaning “beautiful island.

Albert Veksler founded the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast, which has been held annually in Jerusalem nine times, and another 27 times in cities around the world. It was held in Taipei the first days of December. Albert and his family live in Jerusalem, and oversee this international operation. However, local leaders are raised up to lead it in each city. In Taipei, the leaders were a remarkable couple, Carl and Ginny Chin, along with a prominent Jewish leader, Jeffrey Schwartz, who founded the magnificent Taiwan Jewish Cultural Center.

Rosemary and I had the privilege of speaking at the 3 day JPB several times.

Our excellent Taiwanese government-provided driver and Mercedes Benz Sprinter which carried us luxuriously from meeting to meeting, reducing all stress in spite of a packed schedule of meetings. This driver and our little team - Dr. Bob Fu & Pastor Charles Huang - served us so wonderfully.

Once again, I cannot adequately express my appreciation for your prayer and financial support for the Well Versed ministry. As noted above, the last few trips have been the most spiritually productive. We strive to encourage political leaders. You made it possible for us to do that. Thank you so much. I need to admit to you, I was shaken. No, it was more than shaken. I am righteously angry. I am appalled and disgusted.
 
It is bad enough when the government, in this case Canada, turns against a morally upstanding pastor, who takes a position against a drag queen grooming children, and handles it kindly, in a 90 second civil conversation, who is then hauled into jail for it. 
 
But it is more morally repugnant when his church congregation which he attends (he has a ministry of caring for the poor and homeless) turns against him and tell he and his wife of two years to leave the church. They then start to attend another congregation in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and are told to leave that church as well. Why? Because he took a stand against drag queens “story time” with children in a public library.

Derek Reimer and his wife Mona, along with their one year old baby, are suffering under an oppressive government, and a second time due to cowardly so-called “preachers.” Shame on them.

Please take time to listen to the interview with them. Pastor Artur Pawlowski shares first (he begins at 14:42 and ends at 33:32), then Shane Roberts give a lengthy and thorough understanding of the legal issues (begins at 33:33 and ends at 1:03:35), followed by Mona sharing (begins at 1:03:36 and ends at 1:14:26). Pastor Derek is under house arrest and is not allowed to talk.
 
I was so stunned how Pastor Derek Reimer and his wife Mona have been treated by not one, but two churches, that I issued a stern Holy Spirit-inspired public rebuke to those churches. That begins at 1:08:39 and ends at 1:10:56.

Since Shane’s legal analysis is long, you may want to skip through some of it (although it is superbly done). Make sure you hear Mona (the pastor’s wife) share two different times. WATCH IT HERE.

Then, TAKE ACTION.

PLEASE WRITE TO THE PREMIER OF THE PROVINCE (that would be like a governor of a state here in the US). Write to Premier Danielle Smith via email at premier@gov.ab.ca and Attorney General Mickey Amery at calgary.cross@assembly.ab.ca.

And please call Alberta Premier Danielle Smith at 780-427-2251 (or 310-0000 within Alberta) and register your strong disapproval for what they are doing to Pastor Derek Reimer.
 
My email will say, basically:

I am writing to strongly object to the abusive treatment of Pastor Derek Reimer by the Province of Alberta. He is being robbed of religious freedom. This is a violation of the norms in any country. 
As an American, I am going to contact my Senators and my Congressman to request that Canada be put on a watch list for its abuse of evangelical Christian pastors.
Furthermore, I am contacting three good friends: 

• Congresswoman Vicky Hartler, Chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCOIRF). 
• Ambassador Sam Brownback, former U.S. Ambassador for Religious Liberty at Large
• Congressman Mark Walker, nominee for U.S. Ambassador for Religious Liberty at Large...

for the purpose of asking for their help in dealing with the Province of Alberta regarding the abuse of religious freedoms.
 
Furthermore, the State Legislature of Ohio passed a resolution condemning Canada for its abuses of freedom. I will contact a representative of the Ohio legislature to see if they can take action once again. And I will ask former Arkansas State Jason Rapert, leader of the National Association of Christian Legislators (NACL) involving all 50 states to take action to put Canada on watch lists for their abuses and overreach. 
 
I request you, as the Premier of Alberta, to take immediate action to correct these tyrannical actions against Pastor Derek Reimer.

May I ask you to read all of this newsletter, even if you have to skim it rapidly?
 
Do you recall that three weeks ago, we asked you to read “Part 1” and “Part 2” of a newsletter? (Read Here) “Part 1” was about our trip to Armenia. "Part 2" was very sketchy, containing only a few details about our upcoming trip to Taiwan. As you read this, we will be on our way to Taiwan. We now know much more about the trip to Taiwan. 
 
Allow me to give a little background. We have sensed some profound blessing from the Lord, in our most recent three trips. It is as if the anointing has gone to another level. Here are the three recent developments:

1) The recent trip to Israel October 19-31, (my 28th; Rosemary’s 79th), as I have stated in the past, was likely the most anointed trip we have had to the Holy Land. Why do I say that? Seven things happened (Watch Here) that made it extra special.

2) Our recent trip to Armenia, November 12-17, was one of the most blessed, fruitful, and most impactful governmental trip we have ever been on. We came home praising God. I was privileged to give the keynote speech (Watch Here) before the Prime Minister spoke, at the Republic of Armenia Prayer Breakfast, their first such event ever. I came away so encouraged at what I saw and experienced in Armenia. I felt like God has used us to truly exalt Jesus, as we shared the essence of the Gospel. PURPOSE:
Our focus is laser beam tight: We bring biblical principles of governance to government leaders. I encourage, as best as I can, government leaders to see what God says about government. The Bible is the book for all of life, including government. That is our calling.
 
But you might ask, “What if the government official is not a Christian?” That makes no difference. Regardless of the religious persuasion of the one with whom I am sharing, or even if the government leaders might view themselves as atheists, my message is the same. I make the case that a nation will be blessed when it is operating in conformity with God’s principles. Leaders want to hear how their nation can be blessed.

I give government officials copies of Well Versed (which covers the biblical principles to 30 political topics) and Reversed (which covers the biblical principles to 60 political topics). This provides them with resources. Your giving makes it possible for me to donate these books.

IN ADDITION:
We will not be merely meeting with government leaders. We are also speaking at the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast. The JPB was founded by Albert Veksler and Member of the Knesset Robert Ilatov, and is co-chaired by Congresswoman Michele Bachman. Nine of the 35 JPBs have been held in Jerusalem. When you have been traveling for 28 hours, and you arrive at an airport in a foreign land, this is a welcome site. 

Governor Stepan Sargsyan, a very close friend, was the organizer of the Republic of Armenia National Prayer Breakfast, for which I had the privilege of being the keynote speaker along with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

I am so grateful to those who translated, edited, typed, and printed my book REVERSED: FROM CULTURALLY WOKE TO BIBLICALLY AWAKE (Armenian title is slightly different). It was handed out to all the government and faith leaders in attendance.

This man was not only my interpreter in Armenia, but he was the one who translated my book into Armenian. He is very skilled.

I had the joy of giving the first copy to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan gave an excellent speech on the biblical foundations for government. He ended by quoting Psalms 31 by memory. I had the wonderful privilege of sharing a sermon on “The Blood Covenant” at the Word of Life Church in Hrazdan, Armenia.

We were with our good friend Armen Lusyan, Senior Pastor at Word of Life, with some 8,000 attendees, and Overseer of Word of Life Churches throughout Armenia.

I spoke a year ago at the main campus in Yerevan, Armenia, and this year at the campus in Hrazdan, Armenia.

After speaking at the governmental event, I had the privilege of sharing with pastors in Armenia, thanks to Craig Simonian, our Well Versed Representative in Armenia.

A group of us met with the Catholicos, the leader of the Armenian Apostolic Church, which is the official state church of Armenia. Although similar to, it is not affiliated with either the Roman Catholic Church or Eastern Orthodox Church. (We were not allowed to take photos in our meeting with him).

Christianity was founded in Armenia by two of the original disciples of Jesus: Thaddeus and Bartholomew. Two other disciples made it to, or through, Armenia: Thomas and Simon the Zealot. That means one-third of the original followers of Jesus were in this country.

In 301 AD, King Tiridates III declared Armenia to be an official Christian country after Gregory the Illuminator (who the King had thrown in a pit for 14 years) was brought up from the prison-pit, prayed for the King, and he was instantly healed. (For more information on this, click here)

It was a joy to have Kurt and Janice Fuqua as traveling companions. They are from Chicago, and serve on our Well Versed Board. 

Traveling to Armenia also were Congressman Louie Gohmert, Matias Perttula of Save Armenia, Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (although she is the chairman of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom [USCIRF], she was traveling there in a personal capacity, not representing any organization), Dede Laugesen, President of Save the Persecuted Christians, and Suzanne Grishman of Mercury One.

Once again, I am immensely grateful to all of you who helped make this trip possible, praying for us, and financially partnering with us. 
 
In seeking the Lord’s direction and processing together before the trip, Rosemary and I had a conversation that included, “Well, this is a very long way to go to speak for a few minutes. Are we really supposed to go?” Yet we felt we were to go. 
 
We went. On the way home, we commented to each other, “We are so glad we went. It was a profoundly spiritually productive trip.”

I am asking for your help.

PART 1:

When you read this, we will be on a plane to Armenia. Flying and traveling for 24 hours, and sometimes 36 hours without a bed to sleep on is not easy. But we are called to try to make a difference. 
 
We are not young. However, we continue to travel to meet with government leaders. Why? Answer: Our world is on fire. But we think the applied Word of God is THE answer. We “bring biblical principles of governance to government leaders.”

We are on our way to Armenia. Nikol Pashinyan, the Prime Minister in Armenia, has called for the first ever National Prayer Breakfast in the capital city of Yerevan. This is a very big deal. Let me explain.

Background: 
King Khosrov II was assassinated by Anak in 252 AD. Khosrov’s son assumed the throne as King Tiridates III.

Anak (the murderer) had a son Gregory who later came to the young King Tiridates to apologize for his father (Anak) killing Tiridates’ father, Khosrov. Instead of extending forgiveness, Tiridates threw Gregory into a deep pit, incarcerating him for 14 years.

After 14 years, Tiridates became ill. His sister stated that Gregory, the man in the pit, might be able to help.

Gregory – known later as Gregory the Illuminator – was brought up from the pit. (You can visit it still today.) Gregory prayed for Tiridates. The King was healed and trusted the God of the Bible. He declared that he and the Armenians would become Christians and be baptized. In 301 AD, he declared Armenia to be officially “a Christian nation.” 
 
We tend to think of people becoming believers one at a time, and rightly so. But in Eastern cultures, missiologists have observed “mass movements” into Christianity.

And when we were there a year ago, meeting with the President and many government leaders, one after another boldly began their speeches with, “We are a Christian nation.” 
 
Whereas Israel is God’s “first nation” (contrary to what Candace Owens, Tucker Carlson and friends think), Armenia is the first ever nation to declare itself a Christian nation, back in 301 AD.

But Armenia had Christian connections well before 301 AD. 
 
It is believed that four of the original disciples made it to Armenia: Thaddeus (43–66 AD), Bartholomew (c. 60 AD), and possibly Thomas, and Simon the Zealot (not to be confused with Simon Peter). 
 
Bartholomew converted King Polymius’ daughter. Thaddeus converted King Abgar V. Thomas’ impact is reflected in the Lori Province. These apostles played crucial roles in early Armenian Christianity.

But let’s go back even further – much further – to the time of Noah. From the locations where Thaddeus and Bartholomew ministered (New Testament era), you can see Mt. Ararat in Turkey (which before the border was moved was in Armenia), the possible location where Noah’s Ark came to rest in the book of Genesis.

However, Armenia has experienced profound suffering. Remember that in the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1917, one and a half million Armenian men, women and children were lined up and gunned down by the Turks.

And there are many geopolitical challenges in Armenia. Armenia is in a “rough neighborhood.” Its neighbors include (Muslim) Iran, (Muslim) Turkey, and (Muslim) Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan has either driven out, killed, raped, or tortured 120,000 Armenians in the eastern Artsakh region, also known as Nagorno-Karabakh.

I will be speaking at the Prime Minister’s National Prayer Breakfast. I am so grateful that the organizer of the event – Stepan Sargsyon – has arranged for my book Reversed: From Culturally Woke to Biblically Awake to be translated into Armenian and handed out to every governmental and religious leader attending. 
 
Due to many factors (spiritual warfare), I am asking – sincerely asking – for your prayer. That is so needed.

PART 2:

After we return from Armenia, we will make plans to attend the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast in Taiwan. We will be going to Taiwan a few days early to meet with government leaders, and some pastors. The details of this trip are still “in process,” so I will tell you more later. 
 
But I do have a request: I stated that we wanted to ask for your help. 
 
It costs to minister in other countries. On rare occasions, travel costs are covered. Sometime, a small part of the costs are covered. Sometimes none of the costs are covered. 
 
Would you consider assisting with these costs? The need is real. This is not hype. 
 
I am trying to carefully listen to the Spirit, to do what He says to do. I am trying to walk through each open door, with our clearly stated mission: “To bring biblical principles of governance to government leaders.”

I want to invite you to a most wonderful 4th of July – for the whole week – to come to our nation’s capital.

First of all, it is almost impossible to get rooms for a reasonable rate. The city will be jam packed. (I know. We were there for the 4th of July in 2012, and there were about 1 million people watching the fireworks.)

However, this year is so very special. It’s the 250th. CUFI (Christians United for Israel) arranged a wonderful package called "Vacation with a Purpose.” We have asked them if we can invite you to come with us. They said “yes.”

This travel package below is “Land Only” (hotels, buses, CUFI Summit registration, etc). Everyone will arrange their own flight or transportation to get to Washington, DC, and to the hotel.
 
Hotel check-in is July 1, 2026, and check-out is July 8, 2026. The dates for the 4-Day American Biblical Heritage Tour are July 2-5. But there is more. The CUFI (Christians United for Israel) Summit is always the finest. It is TOP QUALITY. The CUFI Summit begins on the evening of July 5 and continues through July 7. You can fly home or drive home early on July 8. The registration cost covers both events. 

So there are two events back to back: (1) American Biblical Heritage Tour (July 2-5) and (2) CUFI Summit (July 5-7).
